Mozilla preparing Firefox for social-networking

The Mozilla Foundation is developing social-networking features for its Firefox browser.

In a project called The Coop, developers are building a browser add-on which will let people share and receive links, or content such as photos, over the Web.

The project is developing ways to allow a user to be aware of the pictures, movies and blog entries being posted by their friends at any time.

A row or column of boxes could be displayed, containing photos from friends, which a user would then pull from an online photo-sharing service like Flickr.

The idea is to use avartars or pictures of friends, which would light up when a link, photo or other content has been sent or updated.

Information could be transported between people’s browsers via RSS feeds or instant-messaging servers.
