Microsoft has released Service Pack 2 for Office 2003, which is designed to improve the reliability of the latest version of Microsoft’s office productivity suite. It also provides support for upgraded applications, security improvements and stability and performance improvements.

While the Outlook email client component of Office 2003 includes spam-filtering functions as standard, SP2 increases security on spam emails sent to an Outlook user’s junk mail folder. The service pack helps prevent phishing attacks by rendering junk messages as plain text, thereby preventing HTML information from being viewed inadvertently. It also disables links in junk emails.

SP2 includes a number of fixes and enhancements for Office applications and servers that are designed to improve application stability.

Microsoft has also updated Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft Office InfoPath 2003. Support has been included in preparation for the release of SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005.

Office 2003 SP2 will be distributed via Microsoft Update and Office update. It is also available for customers as a separate download from Microsoft’s web site.
