Apple Inc., has delayed the launch of its Apple TV set-top box until the middle of March. The device, which will cost around £199, was expected to be available in the US in February. The company has not given a reason for the postponement.
Apple formally announced the set-top box at the Macworld Expo in January.
Apple TV allows digital content from iTunes downloaded to a Mac or Pc, to be viewed on a TV set. The box connects to a TV set wirelessly via a HDMI port, or component video and audio ports. It syncs the digital content from the Mac or PC and puts the content - movies, TV shows, music, and podcasts, plus digital photos from iPhoto, Adobe Photoshop Elements or Adobe Album - onto a TV set for viewing in any room.
Apple TV is expected to be a highly competitive offering in the IPTV market, with some analysts predicting that it will be a hit product for Apple.
The company is introducing Apple TV as part of its strategy to diversify its consumer electronics portfolio beyond Macintosh computers and iPod portable players.
